About the role:

As a Design Technology Lead you will work cross functionally with strategists, and designers to ensure that client needs are not only met, but exceeded, leading to long term relationships. Together you will understand the client’s needs, translate them into a compelling vision for the project, determine the best design tools to use, and execute on design deliverable’s. You are able to understand complex systems and how they impact people’s behavior. You have extensive experience utilizing cutting-edge technologies to imagine, build, and test new ideas in the market to generate untold value for businesses and consumers alike.

What you’ll do

  • Work in the realms of design and engineering with the focus of bringing ideas to life for our clients. You will plan projects and manage teams to:
  • Utilize low-code or coded solutions to develop quick prototypes of proposed designs/solutions. 
  • Work with other engineers to build out and code go-to-market solutions for clients. 
  • Build physical prototypes of devices and other electronic touch-points using tools like particle microcontrollers, Arduinos, Raspberry Pis etc with sensors and actuators 
  • Develop the technical feasibility of prospective projects. 
  • Quickly identify scope and approach to RFP and other customer requests. 
  • Identify the ability to quickly produce early prototypes for the relative area of development such as web, mobile, or electronic
  • Inform the larger team of potential risks and roadblocks within the solution space.  
  • Lead your team in working with the strategy and design team to rapidly build and iterate on new product experiences.
  • Improve internal process, knowledge, or tooling across the engineering team. 
  • Proactively explore new technologies and processes for rapid prototyping.  
  • Thrive in a fast-paced studio across a variety of consulting work. 
  • Work against demanding project schedules within a multi-disciplinary team of strategists, designers, and engineers. 
  • Assist in proposals and incoming sales opportunities. 
  • Respond quickly to client and project team ad hoc requests. 

Does this sound like you? 

  • Suitable Degree in Mechanical/Electronic/Software Engineering and/or Interaction/Industrial design or any other related field with hands-on experience in designing and building experiences, products, and services
  • 5-7 years experience in Engineering/Design technology. 2 or more years at a design consultancy is preferred.
  • An amazing portfolio that reflects expertise in building and prototyping.
  • Design for manufacturing experience 
  • Experience working with no-code platforms like Webflow/Bubble/IFTTT etc 
  • Experience building apps for android and/or iOS 
  • Ability to build complex web-based prototypes using HTML/CSS/Javascript 
  • Expert understanding of creative coding libraries like p5js/Processing/Open frameworks
  • Experience leading teams, managing projects, and interfacing directly with clients.
  • Ability to effectively articulate compelling recommendations and take internal and external stakeholders through a demo. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • The desire to continue learning new skills, improve your craft, and grow as a technology leader within our team.

About the role 

As a Senior Business Designer at propelland, your role is to guide project teams to articulate clear value propositions for complex and ambiguous briefs with the goal of realizing untapped business value for our clients.  
Under your project leadership, every solution is backed up by a compelling business case and informed by market and human insights. To achieve this, you use strategy, business savvy analysis, user insights, and financial modeling as generative design tools to facilitate decision-making and manage tradeoffs with internal and client teams.  
In conversations with internal and client-facing cross-functional teams, you guide groups to diverge and converge as needed to arrive at the set vision. In a nutshell, through storytelling, market sensitivity, facilitation, and critical thinking you drive alignment in every stage of the product, service, or business bring to life cycle. 

What you’ll do 
  • Help clients discover, design, prototype, and launch new businesses, products, services, and experiences, translating behavioral insights from design-led methods into viable business opportunities 
  • Partner with discipline lead to deliver project proposals and plans by defining goals, scope, time, and effort required to deliver on the brief and thinking two steps ahead to adapt milestones when needed throughout the project 
  • Guide and collaborate with teams of designers, engineers, and fellow strategists to design and build solutions that realize untapped value  
  • Own the process and project management for yourself and the team to deliver high quality deliverables 
  • Choose frameworks according to the brief or challenge leveraging strategy, business fundamentals, user insights, financial modeling, design thinking, and project management 
  • Uncover and craft insights in the form of value propositions, market sizing, value chain analysis, business model canvases, and high-level business cases. 
  • Direct and produce artifacts to communicate insights and solutions, including personas, journey maps, service blueprints, prototypes, and experiment materials – as well as prototyping tools and techniques (digital/physical mock-ups of touchpoints, pricing models, pilot protocols etc.)
  • Plan and facilitate creative ideation sessions and client workshops to move teams closer to the vision (online and offline)
  • Own the framing and orchestration of experiments to validate the strategy and business case, including the identification of hypothesis, success criteria, hero metrics, roadmaps, data collection, and translating learnings into strategic recommendations
  • Partner with client lead and strategy lead to develop and grow client relationships, defining the case for change by framing client issues 
  • Mentor and guide the development of more junior team members to help them achieve personal and professional growth

  • 5+ years relevant experience – consulting, agency, or startup experience 
  • Track record of delivering value and high-quality outcomes to the business and achieving results through insightful recommendations 
  • Track record on go-to-market and commercialization strategies for new business lines, products, services, or new ventures 
  • Fluency in and commitment to principles and practices related to creating extraordinary consumer, customer, and employee experiences 
  • Excellent presentation(written/verbal) and facilitation skills in English.
  • Experience with Design Thinking methodology(s) 
  • Ability to be a key member of complex projects in a fast-paced, intense, supportive culture and environment 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills including quantitative methods such as ROI modeling and prioritization frameworks 
  • A network of other design thinkers and leaders 
  • Experience with transformation initiatives that involve process and technology implementation 
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills: we value an entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done with others 
  • Bachelors and/or advanced degree in relevant field (innovation, product design, design strategy, etc.) 
  • Prior Business Design project experience

  • Design and carry out research programs to understand product opportunities, user needs, product/market fit, and usability, as called for by each project.

  • Mentor designers as they develop all the above skills.
